Stress evolution in GaAsN alloy films

چکیده

We have investigated stress evolution in dilute nitride GaAs1−xNx alloy films grown by plasma-assisted molecular-beam epitaxy. For coherently strained films sx,2.5% d, a comparison of stresses measured via in situ wafer curvature measurements, with those determined from x-ray rocking curves using a linear interpolation of lattice parameter and elastic constants, suggests significant bowing of the elastic properties of GaAsN. The observed stress differences are used to quantify the composition-dependent elastic constant bowing parameters. For films with x.2.5%, in situ wafer curvature measurements reveal a signature for stress relaxation. Atomic force microscopy and transmission electron microscopy measurements indicate that stress relaxation occurs by a combination of elastic relaxation via island formation and plastic relaxation associated with the formation of stacking faults. © 2005 American Institute of Physics. fDOI: 10.1063/1.1900289g

Interplay of Microstructure and Magnetic Properties in Epitaxially Grown Co35Pd65 Alloy Films on Cu/Si(100)

The authors have investigated the correlation between magnetic properties, growth structure, and internal stress of epitaxially grown Co35Pd65 alloy films on Cu–Si(100) in the alloy thickness range from 1 monolayer (ML) to 10 ML. An in situ surface magneto-optical Kerr effects (SMOKE) study revealed that Co35Pd65 alloy films showed room-temperature ferromagnetism at a coverage of 2 ML with a st...

Atomistic Analysis of Phase Segregation Patterning in Binary Thin Films Using Applied Mechanical Fields

The patterned compositional evolution in thin films of a binary alloy controlled by modulated stress fields is studied by employing Monte Carlo simulations. General features of stress-patterned phase segregation are probed using a binary Lennard-Jones potential in which the lattice misfit between the two components of the alloy is varied systematically. In general, patterning of the microstruct...

Microstructural Analysis of Copper Thin Films for Characterization of Stress-induced Voiding Mechanisms

The amount of twin formation of electroplated and thermally treated copper thin films was evaluated by electron back-scattering diffraction (EBSD) analysis. The result establishes the importance of twin formation in the analysis of stress-induced voiding, and indicates that with the inclusion of a copper alloy co-element, twin formation was significantly reduced relative to pure-copper. Further...

Deformation Mechanisms in Pure and Alloyed Copper Films

In this work, the evolution of microstructure and the thermo-mechanical behavior of co pper and dilute copper alloy thin films was investigated. 0.3 to 2.0 μm thick film s were deposited by magnetron sputtering under ultra high vacuum conditions onto diffusion-barrier coated silicon substrates and subjected to wafer curvature measurements. Pure copper films annealed in ultra high vacuum exhibit...
